During it’s development phase, the Peace Museum project has been managed by a committee of national stakeholders called the Peace Museum Project Management Team (PMT) which is represented by members of civil society organizations, national institutions including the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, Government Departments and agencies, The Special Court for Sierra Leone, and the United Nations Integrated Peace building Office (UNPSIL) as an observer. The team has been responsible for designing the Museum, fundraising and determining its legal status.

Once the museum moves into its next stage of development, following the closing of the Special Court, it will be managed by an independent national institution, and overseen by a board of directors drawn from government and national institutions. It will raise funds for its operations from domestic and international sources.
